Dear Y11 Pupils and Parents,
We hope you are all safe and well. We know this is a very strange time for you and you will be anxious about your GCSE and BTEC results. Please try not to worry, as this process is as fair as possible in the circumstances.
Schools are not responsible for awarding your GCSE grade. We have to provide an estimated grade for each subject, in rank order, to the exam board and the exam board will calculate your grade based on:
- The estimated grade provided by the school
- Your prior academic data (KS2)
- The school’s usual academic performance
When the school calculates your estimated grade, we have been instructed to consider:
- Your mock exam result
- Your performance in class assessments
- How much progress we estimate you would have made between 20th March (when school closed) and the time of the exams in May / June
Your teachers know you best and will use their professional judgement to provide an estimated grade.
The process for calculating BTEC results is currently being finalised and we will contact you with an update as soon as possible.
We will not take any work completed since March 20th into consideration as evidence for your estimated grade. This is in line with advice from the Department of Education.
Ofqual, the government’s exam regulator, has given a clear instruction to schools that they cannot discuss estimated grades or rank orders with pupils or parents. Please do not contact your teachers about grades. The Ofqual information is available for pupils and parents on their website at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/awarding-vocational-and-technical-qualifications-this-summer.
All of your teachers are here to help you prepare for next academic year. Please contact them via email (all email addresses are in the subject areas on the home learning section of our website) and ask them for tips and suggestions for keeping your brain active over the next few months.
As yet, we don’t have a date for GCSE results to be released; however, we will update you as soon as possible.
If you have any questions regarding the GCSE results process, please contact me via email: email@example.com
Free School Meal Information
We will also be moving to a new national Government system of processing free school meal payments from Monday April 20th, whereby we will be able to generate supermarket vouchers and send them directly to you by email or post. If you are entitled to free school meals the school will contact you by email with your payment voucher attached for you to use. If you do not have access to email we will post paper vouchers to your home address.
Take good care of yourselves and stay safe.
