The current lockdown situation is hard for all of us but especially for disadvantaged pupils; a challenge particularly felt by our school community.
We have a proud ethos of helping every young person to be the best they can be; regardless of circumstance or wealth. However, the current situation puts the outcomes for many of our pupils at risk because a high percentage of our pupils do not have access to a digital device at home.
There are currently 175 pupils in our school community without access to a computer. We are doing all we can to support these pupils: our staff are driving to pupils’ houses to provide paper copies of materials and making daily phone calls; however, these pupils cannot join in live lessons on Microsoft Teams, which means any misconceptions cannot be addressed immediately and learning is impacted in a potentially negative way.
We would not do this under normal circumstances, but the situation is overwhelming for some of our most disadvantaged pupils. Education is so important for all pupils and we are deeply concerned about the long-term impact of the current situation on our young people.
Any contribution you can make will directly fund the purchase of a digital device for one of our pupils, making all the difference to them during these challenging times.
From all the Burnage Academy for Boys community, thank you for your support.
