Y11 Information

In previous years, Year 11 pupils have finished for study leave at the end of May half term. This year, we will be providing pupils with lessons until June 15th and all pupils will be required to attend school for lessons throughout the main period of exams.

It may be necessary for some pupils to engage in home study rather than attend in-school intervention. Families will be informed if this affects their child.

During Year 10, pupils experienced a lot of disruption to their learning due to the pandemic. By continuing lessons until June 15th, we are able to provide your son with even further academic support to ensure he achieves the best grades he can.

How can you help your son to revise?

The exam season can be a stressful time for both parents and pupils. Where possible, please ensure your son has a quiet space to revise and work at home.

Your son has revision materials for all subjects – please discuss these with him and encourage him to show you his work. As well as revising, it is important that you son gets plenty of fresh air and exercise: this helps to alleviate stress, will improve his concentration and support his mental well-being.

What do I need to know about exams?

Morning 'AM' exams start at 9am and afternoon 'PM' exams start at 1pm. Students should aim to arrive 10 minutes before so they can be seated and ready to start on time.

Students are expected to wear full school uniform for all examinations.

Mobile phones and watches must be handed in to invigilators before the start of the exam or candidates may face disqualification.

GCSE results day is on Thursday 25th August and will be held in school. You will receive further information about this nearer the time.

Monday 20th June

To celebrate your son’s time with us at Burnage Academy for Boys, we will be providing some refreshments for all Y11 pupils after the final GCSE Science exam on Monday 20th June. This will be for Year 11 pupils and their teachers in the main hall.

Optional Revision Sessions - Friday 17th June

For students who are not on study leave, we are putting on optional sessions on Friday 17th June. Students who choose to attend must be in full school uniform.

Tuesday 7th – Wednesday 15th June

  • Y11 pupils register in form each morning, in full uniform
  • Pupils take exams each day according to their individual exam timetable
  • When pupils are not in exams, they will be in revision lessons with their subject teachers
  • We will provide individual revision timetables for pupils according to their exam rota.

For example, if you son has a Maths exam in the morning and a Geography exam in the afternoon, he will be revising with a Geography teacher in between the exam sessions

On some occasions, Year 11 pupils without an afternoon exam will be allowed to leave site at 1.30pm and continue their revision at home.

Wednesday 15th June will be the final day for school based lessons.
