Burnage Academy for Boys and Debate Mate have developed a fantastic school debate team able to discuss a variety of challenging issues facing our young people today. Our boys have proven themselves to be professional, dedicated and well informed young men who are able to approach these issues with open minds. They have competed, with confidence, against other schools in front of audiences numbering in their hundreds.
Over the past few years, our students have successfully represented the school in competitions across Manchester; including in the city’s historic council chambers. Their hard work at these events has been rewarded by the opportunity to represent Manchester as a city at the National Debate Competitions in London on several occasions. At these events, against schools from across the country, our students have been repeatedly complimented by the event hosts and competition staff on their positive attitude, dedication and respect.
Thanks to the continuous dedication and efforts of our students and staff, Burnage Academy for Boys has been invited to take part in an international debate convention in Tokyo, Japan; gratefully sponsored by the PDWC WakuPro Friendship Program. The program invites students from across the globe to meet, share their culture and discuss a variety of issues facing all young people with the aim of inspiring a generation of young people who can play an active part in our global society. The students and staff are excited to be guests at this tremendous event and are looking forward to the opportunity to represent both their school, their city and their country.
