Year 11 - College Application Information

In order for your son to have a smooth transition to his post-16 destinations he will need support from school and home.

Here are some tips to help him at home as well as making sure he is meeting key deadlines in school:

All students need to have submitted their personal statement to their form tutor by email by the 9th October.

Students need to spend time at home researching colleges and courses they are interested in.

Please check the grade requirements for courses whilst doing this research. Your son will be using his data from Half-Term 1 (Sep-Oct) as the grades on his application. Most A-level courses require a minimum of two grade 6’s. Please make sure your son applies for the correct level of course.

Attend college open evening! Most of these now require you signing up for these online as many colleges are finding themselves over-subscribed.

Students need to hand their paper college applications to their form tutors by the 14th November at the latest. They need to be processed by the school before being delivered.

Students must apply for a minimum of 3 colleges, there is no maximum. Students must have a back up plan and not assume they will get an offer from their first choice college.

Check your son has an appropriate email address and that he can access this frequently so that he can check the status of his applications.

The list of College Open Days is below. Make sure you book onto these as soon as possible as it may form part of future interviews with the colleges your son applies to. Attending open evenings is vitally important as part of the college process. Please make sure you book onto these in advance so that you don't miss out!
