We’re delighted to share news that our school has been nominated as a finalist in two prestigious national awards, recognising the tremendous achievements of pupils, staff, parents and all connected with the school community.
Firstly, the Tes Schools Awards recognises the very best teachers and schools from UK state and independents, including early years settings, primary and secondary. It's been revealed that Burnage Academy for Boys has been shortlisted for the ‘Secondary School of the Year’ award.
Tes editor and chief judge of the Tes Schools Awards Jon Severs said: “With these awards we honour the education community, who m we have served for over 112 years. This year has seen some incredibly high quality entries. So every teacher and school who has been named in this shortlist should be very proud – it’s a fantastic achievement.”
The Tes Schools Awards winners will be announced on 23 June at a gala ceremony at London’s Grosvenor Park Hotel.
In addition to the Tes Schools Awards, we’ve also been shortlisted for the Pearson National Teaching Awards in the ‘Making a Difference – Secondary School of the Year’ category. By being shortlisted, we have already been awarded ‘bronze’ status, and are awaiting the judges’ verdict to see if we’ve made the final ‘silver’ list. If we do, we’ll be in with a chance of winning the overall ‘gold’ prize!
We’ll find out the final outcome on 21 June, as part of national ‘Thank a Teacher Day.’
The nominations, along with Burnage Community Wrestling Club making the final of the Educate North Awards for Community Engagement, demonstrates the strength of our school community and the wonderful work that takes place every single day. It is testament to the hard work of all connected to Burnage Academy.
“I am absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for these awards, and our staff and pupils deserve it,” said Mr Harrison, Headteacher.
“I’m so proud of everyone in the Burnage Academy family, and it is a real honour that their tremendous efforts are being recognised nationally.”
We’ll bring you updates when we find out the results at the end of June!
