A superb celebration of education across the north of the country ended in triumph for Burnage, as we brought not one but two prestigious awards back to school.
The awards, marking their tenth year, celebrate excellence across the North of England’s University, Higher Education and FE/Sixth Form and school sectors. This year’s ceremony was held at The Hilton Hotel Manchester, with more than 400 nominees, guests and judges present at the prestigious event. Our school was shortlisted for the Mental Health and Wellbeing Award for our work in implementing a whole-school approach to the subject. Present at the ceremony were members of our Pastoral Team, including key staff from The Hub, our specialist provision in school where pupils get tailored, individual support.
We are delighted to announce that we were declared the winners of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Award. Our innovative interventions, and our holistic framework spanning students, staff, families, and the community, were just some of the reasons for our award.
Ms Doyle, who is responsible for our Mental Health work in school, added; “We are delighted that our school has been recognised for the work that we do to support the mental health and emotional wellbeing of our school community. It proves that our value of ‘care’ underpins everything that we do.
“I’d like to thank all of our wonderful staff, who are not only caring individuals, but also skilled and well-trained in working with young people. We also owe a lot to our wonderful supportive practitioners, such as Manchester Mind, CAMHS Thrive in Education Team, and The-Growing Room.”
However, the awards did not stop there. Our school received the ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’ in the school, college or university category, sponsored by CCUK and Smooth North-West.
“Our school is in a very strong position. We’ve worked very hard, with a very cohesive staff and a caring culture. We really look after staff and our boys, and as a result are achieving some exceptional results – and we’re very proud of that,” Mr Harrison told Smooth North-West presenter Darren Parks upon being told about the award.
“It’s fantastic and our staff deserve it. They work tirelessly and do everything they possibly can for our boys.
“We are humbled by this. It’s a tough job in education but it’s a worthwhile one because every day we can make a difference to children’s lives. That’s what we do at Burnage and to be recognised for it is terrific.”
A huge congratulations to all staff and students at the school for their work that resulted in the awards!
