We are looking for a tenacious, professional, and dedicated individual to take on the role of Assistant Headteacher.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Overview:
The Assistant Headteacher will support the Headteacher and Senior Deputy Headteacher in the leadership and management of the school, working to ensure the highest standards of teaching, learning and pastoral care. They will be responsible for leading key areas of the school’s development and improvement, supporting staff, managing resources, and fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.
This is an open role designed to attract the right person. The roles and responsibilities will be agreed at interview.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Support the Headteacher and Senior Deputy Headteacher in the successful delivery of the school’s mission, vision and values.
- Take a leading role in school improvement planning and review.
- Act as a key leader in the day-to-day management of the school, ensuring its smooth operation and a high-quality learning environment.
- Provide dynamic and consistent leadership for staff and students.
- Be a professional role model, setting high standards and expectations for personal conduct, student behaviour and staff professionalism, in support of the school’s intended outcomes.
- Develop and maintain the respect of all stakeholders, inspiring individuals to collaborate and contribute positively to shared ideas and plans for school development.
- Understand the importance of well-being and help to devise appropriate working practices that support well-being for all.
- Keep up to date with educational developments and best practice in leadership and management, in order to introduce appropriate innovation to improve the school.
Teaching and Learning:
- Lead curriculum development, ensuring it meets the needs of all students and reflects current educational standards and best practice.
- Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning across the school to ensure high standards and continuous improvement.
- Oversee selected curriculum areas, providing guidance, support and challenge.
- Support staff in developing effective teaching strategies and resources.
Pastoral Care and Student Welfare:
- Promote the welfare and development of all students, ensuring they are supported in both their academic and personal growth.
- Lead initiatives to enhance student well-being and engagement.
- Ensure that safeguarding policies are implemented effectively and consistently.
- Address and resolve behavioural or pastoral issues as they arise.
Staff Development:
- Assist with the recruitment, induction and mentoring of new staff members.
- Foster a collaborative, positive and professional working environment.
Communication:
- Maintain open and effective communication with parents, staff and external stakeholders.
- Promote and uphold the school’s mission, vision and values.
Additional Duties:
- Support the development and management of school policies and procedures.
- Ensure the effective administration and monitoring of student progress, behaviour and attendance.
- Contribute to the school’s financial and resource management, ensuring the efficient use of resources.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a school setting.
- An excellent classroom practitioner.
- Strong understanding of educational policies, curriculum development and effective teaching strategies.
- Experience of managing and delivering a high-quality curriculum.
- Demonstrable experience of successful line management and staff development.
- Strong leadership qualities, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students and the wider community.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Good knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
- A commitment to continuous improvement.
