Mo Osman, an inspirational mentor and coach from Burnage Academy, headed to London to attend the ‘Oscars’ of the teaching profession. The annual Pearson National Teaching Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of educators from across the UK.

At the ceremony, Mo was recognised amongst thousands of nominees as a Silver Award winner in the ‘Unsung Hero’ category.

Mo works tirelessly for the whole community, supporting staff and students in so many different ways. Be it mentoring pupils who need additional support, helping staff with their day-to-day lessons, or coaching in the wrestling ring, Mo’s positivity and selfless nature shine through.

His successful Burnage Community Wrestling Club has gone from strength to strength, and his impact extends right across Manchester.

“Mo is an outstanding member of our staff and a truly wonderful human being,” said Mr Harrison, Headteacher.

“He is selfless and cares deeply about our students and staff and we are honoured to have him as part of our Burnage family. Well done Mo!”

The glittering awards ceremony was hosted by TV presenter and radio broadcaster Gaby Roslin and brought together teachers, lecturers, support staff, institutions and special guests. The evening showcased the incredible work of all who work in education, going above and beyond what is required to make young people’s educational experiences not only valuable but unforgettable.

Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson was present, and even took time to meet Mo and other members of the Burnage team.

“I want to congratulate all the winners – your unwavering support and dedication to children and young people, giving them the chance to achieve their ambitions and thrive in the process, is hugely inspirational and deserves celebration,” she said.

Sharon Hague, managing director of school assessment and qualifications at Pearson UK, added: “It is an honour and a privilege to be able to recognise and celebrate all of those who work in education.

“The impact that teachers have on students in undeniable, and so too is the hard work and dedication that educators show each day. Congratulations to all of the winners, and a huge thank you.”
