Wolfson Grant Supporting Development of Music

We are delighted to reveal that we have been awarded a significant grant from the Wolfson Foundation to improve and redevelop our music technology, which will allow us to expand our curriculum and provide more opportunities for students in performing arts.

The Wolfson Foundation is an independent grant-making charity with a focus on research and education. Its aim is to contribute to civil society by supporting high-quality projects in science, health, heritage, humanities and the arts.

Since it was established in 1955, the Wolfson Foundation has awarded over £1 billion (£2 billion in real terms) to around 14,000 projects throughout the UK, all on the basis of expert review.

The grant will allow us to refurbish the school’s music classrooms and integrate industry-standard music technology into the curriculum, providing students in Years 7-11 with access to high-quality, modern music education. All will be able to compose, produce, and realize their musical ideas using tools reflective of real-world industry standards.

Paul Ramsbottom, chief executive of the Wolfson Foundation, said: “We are very pleased to support Burnage Academy for Boys to improve their music technology. Creativity, including music, is a vital as well as a joyful part of the curriculum - and we hope that the new facilities will inspire pupils.”

Head of Performing Arts Miss Ford said, “We are really pleased to have such support in growing the offer at Burnage and provide amazing opportunities for our students.

“We are proud of our young musicians and this news means that we can add more strings to their bow!”

Given that access to quality arts education improves academic performance, builds confidence, and supports emotional wellbeing, here at Burnage we are committed to ensuring our offer continues to grow!
