Careers and Information Guidance

Individual Support

Careers Education is seen as a vital part of the pastoral curriculum which is provided for students, and additional help and guidance is offered to each student on an individual basis.

In Year 9 we hold a special evening for parents and students to explain and advise on careers and Year 10 options. In lessons students start to look at their strengths and weaknesses. They start to match these against possible future careers. Students are encouraged to use computer software such as Kudos and CID.

In Year 10 students are offered two weeks of Work Experience. This allows students to experience the world of work and therefore be in a better position to make informed choices about their future. Each student will be offered a practice mock interview.

In Year 11 each student is seen individually by a Personal Advisor from Connexions.

In addition, students are encouraged to use the Careers Room which is well stocked with resources including college prospectuses and computer software.

During Key Stage 4 students will be invited to a mini careers convention. Local colleges and training providers will be in attendance. This provides an ideal opportunity for students to obtain information about local opportunities.
